Of course I thought the Pike Place Market was awesome. I knew it would be cool but, I was not prepared for everything it had to offer. For a minute I thought I had died and gone to "foodie heaven". We sampled everything we could get our hands on while walking around: fresh almonds and hazelnuts, homemade jams, jellies, salsa, honey, and a variety of balsamic vinegars. I was shocked by how affordable everything was. You can buy an armful of beautifully arranged flowers, for like $5. I mean a really, really big bouquet for $5! The fresh basil was $1 a bunch!
I enjoyed the market so much that I never wanted to leave. It seriously made me want to pick up and move to Seattle despite all the talk about the rainy weather. I think I could handle some rain to live near the ultimate farmer's market. I can't say enough about this place. All the fresh seafood, the beautiful flowers, the pastas, the vegetables, the crafts and artwork, the people! Not to mention all the shops, storefronts and restaurants tucked inside the alleys. For a couple of "wannabefoodies", it was overwhelmingly wonderful.
We couldn't pass up the fresh doughnuts at The Daily Dozen. They were frying them right while we were standing there! They're the miniature size ones so they can't be that bad for you, right?
Jared's friend Steve (who we stayed with while we were there) led us to a place in the market called The Tasting Room where we enjoyed a few "flights" of Washington Wines. It was so cool! For around $7 bucks you can taste 4 different wines. I went with the "whites" which they playfully named the "Tooty Fruity" flight. Jared had the "Que Syrah, Syrah" flight of various "reds." We sat around and talked with our friends, we sipped some really tasty wines. We relaxed. It was terrific really. And something they do there that I thought was neat, if you like any of the wines you try, they'll ship it right to your house! Great idea Steve for taking us here! Thank you!
Also at the market, we discovered Le Panier (very french bakery). I'm beginning to think that Jared has a chip in his brain that leads him to unbelievable pastries. I am perfectly ok with this and in fact, I'm thrilled! We wasted little time at the counter and quickly secured an Almandine to share. Buttery, flakey, crispy, almondy? Yes. Almondy. The pastry was to die for. We'd be in trouble if we lived near a bakery like Le Panier. Well, maybe not in trouble but in larger pant sizes for sure.

Believe it or not... there is more to come!
This blog will have to continue with "installments"!
